Sensitivity of TEHL Simulations to the Use of Different Models for the Constitutive Behaviour of Lubricants

This study compares the film thickness, lubricant temperature, and traction curves of two groups commonly used constitutive models for lubricants in thermo-elastohydrodynamic lubrication (TEHL) modelling. The first group consists Tait equation state, Doolittle Newtonian viscosity model, Carreau shear thinning model. second includes Dowson Roelands–Houpert Eyring simulations were conducted using a Computational Fluid Dynamic Fluid-Structure Interaction (CFD-FSI) approach, which employs homogeneous equilibrium model flow simulation along with linear elastic solver to describe deformation solid materials. under load range 100 kN/m 200 slide-to-roll-ratio (SRR) between 0 2 Squalane lubricant. results show up 10% deviation central 31% coefficient friction (CoF), 38% maximum temperature when different models. highlights sensitivity TEHL choice importance carefully selecting appropriate specific applications.
